Haven: Revenge of the Viper by D.C. Akers

Labels: | at Friday, March 14, 2014

Disclosure: I received this product as part of an advertorial.

Haven: Revenge of the Viper by D.C. Akers
Book # 2

It has been a long time since I stayed up most of the night reading a book. I did last night. I was just going to finish the chapter and then the battle began. I was caught up breathlessly fighting with Alisa protecting her children. I had tears of grief with Sam's fragile sense of honor. I laughed at the dry since of humor of Vallen. Demetrius became my protector. Let me not forget Travis' ability to diffuse any tense moment with his off handed remarks. And then, there will be Book #3: Haven: Elixir of Life, I cannot wait.

D.C. Akers is a master of suspense. His ability to describe the characters and battle scenes is so realistic, I can see them as if I were watching a video. I was riveted to the written word and scenes before me.

Haven: A Stranger Magic is Book #1 which is available for free on www.Amazon.com and www.Smashwords.com.

Win your copy of Book #2 by leaving a comment.  Drawing will be on Sunday 3/17/14 using random.org

A-RX produced by Living Fit USA

Labels: | at Thursday, January 23, 2014

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

A-RX produced by Living Fit USA available at Amazon.com

To be honest with you I have not tried any weight loss supplements.  I have always been afraid of the long term effects of chemical stimulants on the body.  Every individual responds differently to the chemical stimulants and most reports of them have been so negative that I steered away from them.  I chose instead the hard way of managing my diet and exercise.

I was given the opportunity to evaluate A-RX is a weight loss supplement that effectively suppresses appetite and increases energy.  I must say I did my research about the contents prior to consuming one pill.  And I can tell you it is effective.  I had lost 20 pounds by diet and exercise but had reached a plateau.   By adding one capsule of A-RX in the morning prior to food intake, I have lost 4 pounds in 15 days changing no other routine.

A-RX contains Garcinia Cambogia or Hydroxycitric acid (HCA) and Green Coffee Bean Extract has Chlorogenic acid which are not chemicals but natural products.  Together they create “Strongest APPETITE SUPPRESSANTS & FAT BURNERS, Available Today.”

Here is my research.  Dr. Oz promotes Garcinia Cambogia as an effective fat burner.  The Doctors also promote Green Coffee Bean Extract as an effective appetite suppressant and fat burner. Here is how both of them work.  Your body uses enzymes to convert unused energy or glucose into fat deposits in the body.  The HCA in Garcinia blocks those enzymes preventing the formation of fat.  Your body breaks down stored fat cells increasing metabolism and burning fat off your body. HCA also increases serotonin in your brain limiting your appetite and giving you extra energy. Chlorogenic acid is an antioxidant, may also slow the release of glucose into the bloodstream after a meal.

Deep Sleep with Andrew Johnson MP3

Deep Sleep with Andrew Johnson MP3

Andrew Johnson has a deep resonate voice that allows you to focus on his presentation.  I can tell you the truth I have never heard the end of the recording.  I am unconscious and into the deep sleep that everyone desires.  I love the background music that is subtle and calming in and of itself.  All I can say is it works for me.  You have to try it.

While visiting his facebook page at facebook.com/relax.with.andrew.johnson I was excited to see a new app in the iTune store:  the Relaxing Holidays.  I downloaded it and fell asleep during the relaxation segment but was still aware of his voice and suggestions and awoke with new energy and the ability to concentrate.  I am definite a fan of Andrew Johnson.

"When" A friendly and stylish to-do app for iPhone

Labels: | at Wednesday, December 04, 2013

"When" A friendly and stylish to-do app for iPhone developed by Mikhail Solomonov

What a unique app!  You can set multiple timers at once which is great for my job where I have to work 2 hours each on 2 projects and 45 minutes on another project before I clock out on my computer. Prior to this app I was always guessing if I had spent enough time on each project.  Now I know.

"When" is a friendly and stylish task manager that looks like a clock. It is so easy to use.  You can create a task, change its time or delete them with a single touch or swipe.  My first task is a star and my second is a leaf, while my last task of the day is a diamond.  The icons are automatic. I have notated each so I can identify the task.

The developer Mikhail Solomonov has put a lot of thought into this and has succeeded in creating a functional application.

Please visit the App Store: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/the-when/id537048109 and down load yours today.

Feather on the Breath of Ellulianaen by Robert Denethon

Labels: | at Sunday, November 24, 2013

Feather on the Breath of Ellulianaen by Robert Denethon

This is the first book of the trilogy which makes you want to read more.  Robert Denethon style of writing is a combination of fantasy and ultra-reality. As an adult I was transformed into the story line of Elves, Gryphons, Dragons, and mysterious creatures Wyverns.  Gryphons have a code not to trust humans but find a joint effort is the only way to fight the evil elf wizard.

The book is about Hwedolyn coming of age and finding that trusting in the God Ellulianaen can provide protection even when he questions Ellulianaen’s existence.  It reminded me of today’s youth raised in a church with the knowledge of God and Jesus but in the end have to make a personal commitment to trusting Him.

The book further details family relationships, loss and recovery.  Add twists and turns, adventure, battles and little demonic elves and you have one of the best books on the market.

The other books are Gryphon of the Hidden Realm and The Talon of Destiny which are available at www.amazon.com.

Writing Scary Scenes by Rayne Hall

Labels: | at Saturday, November 23, 2013

Writing Scary Scenes by Rayne Hall

I remember sitting on the floor in front of my great Uncle Cash with my siblings and cousins.  Uncle Cash was a master story teller of terror.  His voice reverberated the suspense. I was captivated with the smells, sights and sounds of the story. So entranced and engrossed in the story with the lights out and on a stormy night that we would sit closer to each other holding hands shivering with fear.  Then the climax he would shout BOO! And we would all scream terrified into our Mom’s arms then laugh at each other for being such sissies.

Oh how I have tried to create a verbal story telling of terror on my Uncle Cash’s level of expertise, always failing.

Rayne Hall makes the ability to tell scary scene into a how to reference guide.  I am so excited to have been able to read her book to evaluate it here on my blog.  I was unaware of the differences between suspense, anxiety, unease, apprehension, foreboding, excitement, dread, revulsion, shock, panic and horror. Not only does she explain what they are but how to use each and the pitfalls of using them too much or inappropriately.

You can receive your copy at www.amazon.com and www.barnesandnoble.com.

She also teaches writing workshops for all levels of authors at https://sites.google.com/site/writingworkshopswithraynehall/

Writing Fighting Scenes by Rayne Hall

Labels: | at Friday, November 22, 2013

Writing Fighting Scenes by Rayne Hall

I have been journal writing forever and have attempted short stories but never could get the rhythm for describing a fight scene.  I have been trying to write fantasy about animals in a real world and their behaviors. I love this book.  It will make the difference in my writing.

It is like a reference guide for all types of weapons, scenes and the focus of the fighters.  It describes the pit falls or blunders of what can go wrong in a fight scene.  I love the links to You Tube that gives the visual to the chapter you have just read. I love the following chapters: 15. Female Fighters, 16. Male Fighters and 17. Animals and Weres. I was unaware the difference between the male and female psyche where a woman is slower to initiate or respond and takes longer to come to a rest mentally.

If you need a boost in providing a more realistic fight scene this book is a must reference guide.

Prevagen

Prevagen
I received a 30 day supply to evaluate Prevagen's effectiveness. Prevagen is developed by Quincy Bioscience. Before I began taking the supplements I would go about my day at work and think what was I doing?  Now the brain fog does not exist. I can focus and be task oriented.  I also received a free Brain Health Guide of which you can receive one free as well at http://thebrainhealthguide.com/. It is full of practical information some of which was new to me. I cannot fully explain the results and the contents so I have copied the product description here.

Prevagen (Pronounced: prev-uh-gen) is a new brain health supplement and functions unlike other brain or memory supplements.* The main ingredient is a new use for a well-known protein called “apoaequorin” which was originally found in a certain species of jellyfish.

Prevagen was tested in a large double-blind, placebo-controlled study using computers to assess brain performance. 218 adults over 40 years old participated in the three month study. Prevagen significantly improved learning and word recall.* Clinically tested and shown to improve mild memory problems that occur in aging.*

As we age, the body’s ability to naturally produce this protein slows down. When this happens you begin to lose about 30,000 brain cells every day, and may start to experience difficulty with memory, focus and concentration. Prevagen helps support brain cells by supplementing the proteins and supports healthier brain function.*

Prevagen is available at  http://www.prevagen.com/ as well as CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid and the Vitamin Shoppe. Like them on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/prevagen

Labels: | at Friday, September 27, 2013

Bookoos is an online yard sale.   My sister from Florida was telling me about online yard sales. I was happy to find Bookoos in the Indianapolis area which is 40 miles from my home.  I have a tremendous amount Boyds Bears Plush and Resin pieces.  I have been listing some my Boyd’s Bears Collections on Ebay and have found no profit thus far.
I quickly listed 8 items for the Indianapolis residents under the collectibles category.  I can keep my items up on the listing until after the Christmas if necessary.   The benefit of making a profit without shipping is fantastic.

The concept of an online yard sales is fantastic and forward thinking.  If you love yard sales you will love shopping after dark at home on www.bookoos.com.  There are hundreds of Bookoos across the world helping people buy and sell online without having to worry about shipping and the hassle that comes with it. Educational Alphabet Flash Cards for 3,4,5 Year Old Kids created by Educational Toys Planet is a School Zone Alphabet Flash Cards

The flash cards are high quality card stock with crystal clear colors.  My grandson has just completed preschool and is entering kindergarten.  We played various games but the favorite of all games was to throw the cards in the air and go on a scavenger hunt to find the A(s) B (s) etc. By throwing the cards in the air the cards landed in both directions revealing the alphabet and the picture it represented. Excitement in learning was secondary to the fun of the game.  You can receive your set of Alphabet Flash Cards at Educational ToyPlanet

THE SECRET TO HAPPINESS by Suzy Lieberman

Labels: | at Sunday, September 15, 2013

THE SECRET TO HAPPINESS by Suzy Lieberman is another excellent book in a series.  Hugo is looking for something to make him happy forever.  He learns things cannot make people happy it is sharing your heart and talents that make a lasting happiness.  Again, I praise Suzy Liebermann's delivery of the concept of happiness in a colorful book.  I love the series of Hugo the Starfish. When I worked in the school system as a social worker I scoured the world for educational materials that would engage the children with thoughts of how their actions affected others.   This book has delightful colorful images of the ocean. There are so many ways to present this book.  I am thinking this would benefit adult children of alcoholics.   Even the discussion prompts would relate to that group.  Ms. Liebermann has an exceptional ability to relate to youth and adults. This book and the entire series of Hugo is available at www.amazon.com.

Coaster by Lorena Bathey

Labels: | at Saturday, September 14, 2013

Imagine waiting for your turn to ride the most exciting roller coaster ever. Hearing the screams and the excitement of the exiting passengers. You know you want to ride this coaster and would stand in line for an hour if necessary. Then the worst possible scenario happens, it explodes.

This is one of the best books I have read in my favorite category murder/mystery.  I love Ms. Bathey's descriptions of the scenes and surroundings.  Very concise and not boring with unnecessary details.  There are multiple character stories about how each surviving family deals with death in the aftermath of a horrific tragedy.

Lorena Bathey has a strong female character Detective La Rosa who is human.  She fells anger, frustration and sorrow and even cries.  Her emotions do not get in the way to accomplish the task of finding the person responsible for this cruel and senseless act.

I received a signed copy of Coaster by Lorena Bathey to review and today you can receive a free ebook from Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Coaster-ebook/dp/B00DJXTG0K/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

Here is a product description:

A soft bound book with 295 pages. Bigger print for easier reading. There is some violence, adult themes, and police drama.  This book is not for those under 18.
Coaster is a charactger study in grief and loss melded with a whodunit. The twist and turns Lorena Bathey has creaded will have you holding your breath, grabbing your chair, and wishing for more when it's done.

THE POWER OF THE WORD - The Island Of Empathy by Suzy Liebermann-

Labels: | at Monday, September 09, 2013

THE POWER OF THE WORD - The Island Of Empathy by Suzy Liebermann- Children's Ebook Review

I love the series of Hugo the Starfish. When I worked in the school system as a social worker I scoured the world for educational materials that would engage the children with thoughts of how their actions affected others.   This book has delightful colorful images of the ocean and the islands.  There are so many ways to present this book as a group or one on one. The discussion prompts are excellent.  Ms. Liebermann has an exceptional ability to relate to youth.

Hugo learns that words can hurt because they pierce his skin with pointed arrows and those were the words he used against another that came back to hurt him. Likewise, when he used kind words they came back to him as kind words.

Here is a brief product description by Ms. Liebermann:

On the ISLAND OF EMPATHY Hugo learns about the power words can have and the fact that if he has nothing good to say he is better off not to say anything. Words are like arrows, once you let them go you cannot take them back and depending on how you use them they can hurt.

Hugo is a little starfish whose home is at the bottom of the wide ocean. He longs to visit the real world, and one day he decides to go and find it. Hugo's journey to happiness isn't quite as straightforward as he hopes though. He is sent to a series of different islands where he is taught important character lessons.

By the end of his journey, Hugo has visited fourteen islands, made many more friends, and, most importantly, learned how to be a better starfish.

Gryphon of the Hidden Realm by Robert Denethon published by Submarine Media Pty, Ltd

Thrilling book of fantasy.  When a young Boy who has no name discovers a Gryphon and becomes a friend, protector and defender of the mythical creatures.  Boy has a destiny that is unknown to him.  In fact everything is unknown to him.  He has lived with an unloving family, taught by a harsh school master and formed into an individual who has an empathic understanding of people and creatures.

Mr. Denethon is a skilled story teller who captivated me with his writing.  I was riding the gryphon with boy feeling the air blowing in my face hearing the sounds of only the wind.  I was hanging on for dear life as the gryphon was making his dives and maneuvers away from the dragon who was breathing fire upon their bodies and feathers.  I became aware that I was breathing shallow and nearly out of breath and laughed at myself for being so enthralled with the book that reality had been skewed.  There are multiple characters introduced though out the book all working for the end goal.  Defeat the Nomoi rule.

Here is the product description.

Gryphon of the Hidden Realm, kindle e-book delivered via www.Amazon.com. The second book in the Gryphonomicon Gryphon Dragon Histories. Heroic fantasy, that is, the genre of Lord of the Rings, Narnia, Eragon series.

Female gryphons are disappearing, abducted by the evil elves, the rulers of the Nomoi Empire. Hwedolyn must find out what is happening to them. He meets partisans, men and elves, and must question ancient lore if he is to survive.

The story begins with a young orphan boy, a serving hand at the tavern high in the mountains, who knows that every new moon, a barrel of mead is left out on the plateau. In the morning the barrel is gone and two goats are left as payment. Who or what is it that collects the mead on this, the darkest night of the month?

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
He decides to stay awake one night and go out to see who or what it is that takes the mead.
