Steampunk Altered Bingo Cards

Again, I joined a swap with the challenge to design an elaborately decorated bingo card.  I went to the hardware store and purchased various crimp washers that look like gears.  I had been gifted steampunk tags and accessories from a previous swap.  I found 2 feathers on the floor of Walmart that must have come off a feather duster and I had stamps of feminine faces.  And brads that look like flat head and phillips screws. The challenge was to use a minimum of five elements.  This is what I came up with.  I inked up the bingo cards with a mixture of 3 inks from American Crafts.  The netting is from the hair nets that I have to wear at work.  I am always looking for ways to repurpose ordinary things for crafts needs.

Patriotic Altered Bingo Cards

The goal I was trying to accomplish was an elaborately altered bingo cards.  I had die cuts from My Minds Eye, American Crafts, and Die Cuts with a View. I had some ribbon and brads and this is what I came up with. Two have wobblers that make the design spring. We were to use a minimum of 5 elements.  I like how my design came out.  I swap at www.scrapbook.com

Altered Altoid Tin

I have engaged in a challenge to swap an altered Altoid tin in a whimsical fairy in a romantic design.

So I painted the tin in white gesso.  Followed by a mixture of paints by Claudine Hellmuth.  I used a paper plate as a pallet.  I placed a small amount of painterly pink, smudge of blue with a large drop of  Scribbles shiny petunia purple,  I brushed it over the inside and out side of the tin.  I didn't like the look.  I washed my hands and dried them on a paper towel and began dabbing at the tin.  While still wet I sprinkled silver DreamWeaver metallic F/X. Then I took an eye dropper of alcohol and poured it over the over the metallic F/X which caused it to mottle.

After it was dry I placed a fairy Dazzle from Paper Wishes inside the tin.  I found a branch off the tree and glued Sweet Pea Flower Soft onto the branches with some blossoms from my stash.  The border on the inside of the lid is
Recollections: Glitter on a rolls.

I placed lace on the outside with flowers from my stash and called it complete.

I hope my swap partner likes it as much as I do.  I was almost wanting to keep it.

A FRUGAL LIFE by RHIANA JONES

A FRUGAL LIFE by RHIANA JONES is available from Amazon.com.
This is another practical book by Ms. Jones.  Not only is it a practical hands on approach for frugal living but any individual can apply the techniques starting today.  We have all read about how to save on shopping but Ms. Jones tells you step by step how she does it for her family which I can relate to my personal shopping habits.  She demystified the Amazon prime and strategies for accessing better deals.

The tips about working from home using Task Rabbit and Fiverr were a new approach for me and I signed up for the virtual assignments.

You will not be disappointed in purchasing this book.

The following is her product review:
“This is what I do on a daily basis to make it from paycheck to paycheck. This is not a compilation of articles on the Internet. This is not a rehash of other books. This is just the way I do things.
Maybe the tips in this book apply to you; maybe they don’t. Hopefully you’ll at least be able to use these ideas as a jumping-off point to adjust your living to a more frugal lifestyle in your own way.
This is a not a book on couponing, although there may be a few words on it. I don’t live in an area with double coupons, so I do the best with what we have, but that’s not my main focus.”

Bingo ATC

Bingo ATC (art trading cards) were so much fun to make.  I found a swap on Scrapbook.com and was excited to join in the fun.  We had to add five elements and could use any type of bingo cards out there.  I chose the exact size of an ATC (2.5 inches x 3.5 inches) and some that were smaller.   There were four categories and I chose two which were spring and feminine. Here are the results.

Haven: Revenge of the Viper by D.C. Akers

Disclosure: I received this product as part of an advertorial.

Haven: Revenge of the Viper by D.C. Akers
Book # 2

It has been a long time since I stayed up most of the night reading a book. I did last night. I was just going to finish the chapter and then the battle began. I was caught up breathlessly fighting with Alisa protecting her children. I had tears of grief with Sam's fragile sense of honor. I laughed at the dry since of humor of Vallen. Demetrius became my protector. Let me not forget Travis' ability to diffuse any tense moment with his off handed remarks. And then, there will be Book #3: Haven: Elixir of Life, I cannot wait.

D.C. Akers is a master of suspense. His ability to describe the characters and battle scenes is so realistic, I can see them as if I were watching a video. I was riveted to the written word and scenes before me.

Haven: A Stranger Magic is Book #1 which is available for free on www.Amazon.com and www.Smashwords.com.

Win your copy of Book #2 by leaving a comment.  Drawing will be on Sunday 3/17/14 using random.org

Overcoming your Shopping Addiction by Stephen Howe

Disclosure: I received this product as part of an advertorial. Overcoming your Shopping Addiction: The Guide to Beating your Addiction to Shopping and Ending the Shopping Addiction Cycle by Stephen Howe.

Wow! what a fantastic book.  I am a binge shopper who stays within my budget.  As a social worker I love to read self help books and promote them others when necessary.  I love the description of the differing types of shopping additions, the reason we get into trouble and the goals to overcome it.  This book is well written and easy to read.

This book is available at www.Amazon.com

The product description details the book better than I:

"You’re about to discover proven steps and strategies to help you better understand the underlying causes of compulsive spending and develop the right approach needed to effectively combat shopping addiction.

Addiction to shopping is arguably the most socially reinforced among all the known forms of behavioral disorders. In a highly consumerist society, spending is seen as a key exercise in validating your worth, so it is not surprising to see the act of shopping being equated with personal happiness.

But therein lies the biggest challenge: when left unchecked, excessive shopping has the potential of spawning serious emotional, financial, and even physical problems. In fact, similar to other forms of addiction, getting hooked to shopping can also extend beyond the self and pose significant challenges to your relationships with other people.

It goes without saying, therefore, that anyone keen on getting rid of this disorder should be equipped with the proper mindset, motivation, and attitude needed to keep it from wreaking further havoc into his life.

Here Is A Preview Of What You'll Learn...

  • Understanding the Retail Therapy Culture
Identifying the Symptoms of Extreme Shopping Addiction
Coming to Terms with your Shopping Triggers
Sporting a Proactive Demeanor to Combat your Shopaholic Tendencies
Leading a Healthy and Sustainable Lifestyle"

Invisible Witness: Healing From My Family's Legacy of Domestic Violence by Lisa Kroulik

Disclosure: I received this product as part of an advertorial.

Invisible Witness: Healing From My Family's Legacy of Domestic Violence by Lisa Kroulik is available at www.Amazon.com.

Lisa Kroulik is a freelance writer, writes on such a personal level it is heart wrenching and enlightening. It is apparent that domestic violence has lasting scars and can be generational but I have never read such a personal account. Lisa does not stop with the personal account she further explains how to begin a recovery. Keep in mind that a recovery is not over night but a process.

The following is one of the excerpts:

“Adults who witnessed violence between their parents when they were children often carry emotional scars that last a lifetime. The trauma to their developing brains can be so great that some psychologists have compared it to what soldiers experience in war. Like soldiers, children from violent homes are hyper-alert and expect to see danger at every turn. Since they don't possess the skills to process what they have witnessed, these children often suppress the memories well into adulthood. It often takes employment and relationship problems, a mental health diagnosis, addictions, and other serious life issues for them to make the connection between the events of their painful upbringing to what they are experiencing in the present.”

Why You Drink and How to Stop, A Journey to Freedom by Veronica Valli is an instructional manual for getting sober.

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

Why You Drink and How to Stop, A Journey to Freedom by Veronica Valli is an instructional manual for getting sober.  It is available at these on line retailers: iTunes, Barnes&Noble.com, Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk.

As a social worker I have read many books on additions and their causes and the plan for sobriety but this book is by far unique.  I feel this a fantastic book.  It is easy to read, understand and the concepts are ready to apply to everyday life. I liked the stories that tied the point together of various sections.  The chapters I really liked were Chapter 2: The Path to Alcoholism, Chapter 3: What Drives People to Drink, and Chapter 6: The Spiritual Aspect of Recovery.   The spiritual aspect of recovery debunks the theory that you have to be a super Christian to gain recovery.  I liked the idea that you can let go of religion and still find God.

The concluding chapter: Becoming the Best Version of Yourself You Are Capable of Being is moving.  It is hard for some to tell themselves positive affirmations even without addictions.  The reason I have a daily devotion of positive affirmations is so I can be kind to myself.

Please pick up a copy of this book for yourself if you have ever wanted to stop the craziness of drinking.

A-RX produced by Living Fit USA

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

A-RX produced by Living Fit USA available at Amazon.com

To be honest with you I have not tried any weight loss supplements.  I have always been afraid of the long term effects of chemical stimulants on the body.  Every individual responds differently to the chemical stimulants and most reports of them have been so negative that I steered away from them.  I chose instead the hard way of managing my diet and exercise.

I was given the opportunity to evaluate A-RX is a weight loss supplement that effectively suppresses appetite and increases energy.  I must say I did my research about the contents prior to consuming one pill.  And I can tell you it is effective.  I had lost 20 pounds by diet and exercise but had reached a plateau.   By adding one capsule of A-RX in the morning prior to food intake, I have lost 4 pounds in 15 days changing no other routine.

A-RX contains Garcinia Cambogia or Hydroxycitric acid (HCA) and Green Coffee Bean Extract has Chlorogenic acid which are not chemicals but natural products.  Together they create “Strongest APPETITE SUPPRESSANTS & FAT BURNERS, Available Today.”

Here is my research.  Dr. Oz promotes Garcinia Cambogia as an effective fat burner.  The Doctors also promote Green Coffee Bean Extract as an effective appetite suppressant and fat burner. Here is how both of them work.  Your body uses enzymes to convert unused energy or glucose into fat deposits in the body.  The HCA in Garcinia blocks those enzymes preventing the formation of fat.  Your body breaks down stored fat cells increasing metabolism and burning fat off your body. HCA also increases serotonin in your brain limiting your appetite and giving you extra energy. Chlorogenic acid is an antioxidant, may also slow the release of glucose into the bloodstream after a meal.
